Park Hotel - 101-119 S. 2nd Street: Currently the Hyatt House, the Park Hotel was located in this building built in 1904 by A.W. Miles, an early merchant that was very influential in the development of town. Interestingly enough, legend has it that to this day there is a maid upstairs that fades away when approached. — Yellowstone Gateway Museum

The Sterling - 221 S. Main Street: The Sterling, built in 1907 by Lafayette Montgomery (Billy) Miles, was named after his father Sterling Miles. The ground floor is now home to the popular vintage store M.T. Roots and the upper floors are residential apartments — Yellowstone Gateway Museum

Livingston Lumber & Coal - 212 S. 2nd Street: Built in 1891, this building was originally the office for Emanuel Goughnour who formed a lumber business in 1882 and operated a saw mill on Willow Creek and a steam plaining mill at the foot of 2nd Street. In 1892 the business was sold and became the Livingston Lumber Company whose sign remains on the side of the building. — Yellowstone Gateway Museum
Hogan / Chesterfield / Quaker - 106 N. Main Street: On the north side of the Danforth Building, built as a single story in 1896 with the second floor added in 1900. On the top is “John Hogan Wines Liquor”. John Hogan operated a saloon on the first floor from 1904-1906 in addition to renting rooms on the second floor. In 1937 there was an ad for Chesterfield Cigarettes. The latest ad was for Quaker Oats. — Yellowstone Gateway Museum
The Teslow - 711 E Park Street: Built around 1906, The 75-foot-tall “prairie skyscraper,” known as the Teslow, is a grand example of vernacular architecture. The grain elevator is a monument to the industries that built Livingston — farming, ranching, and the railroad. — theteslow.org

Daily lunchtime walks from my design studio in Livingston, Montana inspired me to create these shirts. I saw amazing old ghost signs on the historic downtown building walls, some vibrant and restored, some fading and near being lost, but all with their own special feel. I wanted to document this great old artwork while allowing those that also love the style to take it with them. I hope you enjoy these and push to help preserve this type of art history wherever you may be from. A special thanks the Yellowstone Gateway Museum for providing the background for these great historic places.
